The furniture style Louis XV represents one of the most beautiful expressions of the quality of French, refined and elegant art. It is characterized by the use of curved lines and the advent of the various “Rocaille” designs.
The Rocaille style uses images such as sheets of acanthus, abounding pastures, the whole in an asymmetrical exubérance. At the end of the period, Rocaille decors become again symmetrical and used braided snap rings, ribbons or pearls. Fashionable woods are the beech and the oak. One also sees the appearance of lacquers of China. The marquettery is always one of the noblest practices of the trade of the piece of furniture.
The usual pieces of furniture are created according to the taste of the time. One notices a large variety of tables (card tables, of toilet, consoles, reading tables) and seats (Queen’s armchairs, bergères or “voyeuse” chairs). New pieces of furniture appear, such as the office in back of ass, the chiffonier or the writing desk.
